What is a quote
A quote (or estimate) is a price proposal given to a client before a job is carried out, detailing what will be done, how much it will cost, and the timeframe. It has no tax value: it's a commercial document that helps the client decide whether to go ahead.
What a quote is for
A quote sets expectations before work begins: what's included, what isn't, the price and the timeframe. It's also a useful reference if there's any disagreement later about what was agreed.
Does a quote create an obligation
On its own, a quote doesn't create a payment obligation (unlike an invoice). However, if the client accepts it in writing, it usually becomes the basis of the commercial agreement, so it's worth keeping alongside that acceptance.
How long is a quote valid for
It's common to limit validity to 15 or 30 days, since material or labour costs can change. PreFactur includes a "valid until" field by default that you can adjust freely.
What information it should include
The issuer's and client's details, a number and date, a detailed description of the products or services with quantity and price, the applicable VAT, the total, and terms (validity period, payment method, delivery times).
Once the client accepts it, it becomes the basis for the final invoice.
